idk i know im probably in the minority here, but that episode is almost as bad as "last salute." to me, saved only by a few scenes of dialogue of back and forth between columbo and the killer that were decent. its one of the few episodes i caution people against watching when first getting into columbo, and my family and i always skip like the plague when doing a rewatch.
it is probably one of the technically most inept episodes with regards to the filmmaking/directing (bizarre framing and line direction, scenes that go nowhere, glaring pacing issues, multiple scenes where it is clear that they were trying to make up for lack of footage through ADR and weirdly cut editing, etc.), and to boot the resolution is really contrived and unsatisfying. favorite random episode is probably a friend in deed.Ĭontroversial opinion, but i aside from "last salute to the commodore" (an episode so god awful that it doesn't even need further explanation) i really did not care for "identity crisis." i know peter falk said that this was one of his favorite episodes, but im sorry guys this episode is a real stinker.
